Intelligence Studies program development including the research, writing, development, and instruction of new intelligence coursesIn the time since the development of the initial three courses, I have developed four additional courses: (1) The advanced intelligence analysis course delves heavily into structured analytic techniques as applied to real-world problems. (2) The applied analytic techniques course was created in conjunction with the Florida Intelligence Center’s goal of advanced formal instruction of analysts, where students use open-sources to answer key intelligence questions provided by the FIC. (3) The national security statistics course focuses on the analysis of “big data” or use of large datasets, to include the National K-12 School Shooting Database, the Profiles of Individuals Radicalized in the United States dataset, and the Global Terrorism Database, to answer student-formed intelligence questions with a domestic focus. This course focuses primarily on interpretation of results, but includes instruction on modelling and gaming accompanied by a discussion on the implication of bias in models. (4) Finally, a more post-modernist course examines the narrative elements in the Spy Fiction genre to investigate its effects on public opinion of U.S. intelligence. A final course, writing for intelligence and national security, with instruction in plain language writing, message-driven formatting, and the ethics of writing, was prepared, but not implemented.Instructing and mentoring students in Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Intelligence, and Professional Development.
