Communicating ecological research and society activities within Nordic and global scientific communities.

Traveled around New Zealand for nine months to sketch seabirds (albatrosses, penguins, prions, storm-petrels, shearwaters, shags, gulls, gannets, etc.) while living out of an old station wagon, hitching boat rides to remote islands, and writing stories for National Geographic about extraordinary efforts to save the “Seabird Capital of the World.”

Studied seabirds across New Zealand and offshore islands as Fulbright–National Geographic Storytelling Fellow (2017-18). Nest-searched on Mount Kinabalu, Borneo, with research crew from University of Montana (March 2017). Banded songbirds, censused heron nests, resighted terns, and performed other research and conservation actions on Stratton Island, Maine, for Audubon's Seabird Institute/Project Puffin (May 2016). Assisted with one month of Black-tailed Godwit research and conservation in Friesland, Netherlands, for University of Groningen (April 2015). Completed two field seasons researching breeding Nazca Boobies on Isla Española, Galápagos, for Wake Forest University (2009-10). Surveyed avian diversity by sight, sound, and mist-net capture at three nature reserves in Ecuadorian jungle and cloud forest (2009). Contributed to Project Owlnet, HawkWatch, Christmas Bird Count, and International Migratory Bird Day surveys across North America (2005-08).

Developed and managed communications program for the American Ornithologists’ Union and Cooper Ornithological Society during their merger into the American Ornithological Society.

Oversaw communications pertaining to the College's academic program, a role that involved producing writing, artwork, photos, and videos for stories on a wide range of topics in the sciences, arts, and humanities. Outlets included Bowdoin News, Bowdoin Daily Sun, and Bowdoin Magazine. Additional project: coordinated the video series “Founding Principles” in collaboration with government professor Andy Rudalevige and Emerson Productions.

Wrote and illustrated articles for the Lab's online bird guide and official blog.

Drafted figures and annotated source literature for Invasion Ecology textbook (Lockwood et al.)

Produced pastries and soups, developed recipes, and supervised assistant pastry chefs.

Performed agricultural work on farms run by Spanish families in Galicia, Málaga, and Cataluña, Spain (2006) and on a farm in Hadley, Massachusetts (2010).

Operated 35-foot lobstering vessel out of Bar Harbor and provided nature expertise for passengers.

Guided ecology- and history-oriented hiking, biking, and bus tours in Acadia National Park.

Led natural history lessons, excursions, and overnight field trips for summer camp students.

Taught segment of weekly labs, held review sessions, graded, and administered exams.

Wrote honors thesis with 16 months of field research, laboratory work, GIS mapping, data entry, statistical analysis, and literature review. Studied herbaceous plant community composition versus physical and chemical site characteristics, tree diversity, and land-use history of 112 forested sites. Operated Trimble GPS Unit, Pathfinder Office, ArcGIS ArcMap, and JMP stats software.
