Capstone Project: Documenting Stories Of Hurricane Helene

Current

Swannanoa, North Carolina, United States

I am currently working on a Capstone Project titled "Documenting Stories of Hurricane Helene," which began one month after the hurricane devastated the area. The project focuses on developing seven storyboards, which are strategically placed in Asheville and Swannanoa, to capture and showcase the grief, hope, and resilience of flood survivors. Each storyboard tells the personal stories of those impacted by the flood, highlighting their challenges, recovery efforts, and the strength they found within their communities. As part of this project, I am also writing a paper and presentation that explores themes of recovery, stewardship, and resilience in the aftermath of the hurricane. This paper examines how the community has responded to the disaster, the role of environmental stewardship in the recovery process, and the ways in which resilience manifests in both individual and collective efforts. Through this work, I am connecting the stories of survivors to broader environmental and social themes, contributing to the understanding of how communities rebuild and adapt in the face of adversity.
