I am currently working on a Capstone Project titled "Documenting Stories of Hurricane Helene," which began one month after the hurricane devastated the area. The project focuses on developing seven storyboards, which are strategically placed in Asheville and Swannanoa, to capture and showcase the grief, hope, and resilience of flood survivors. Each storyboard tells the personal stories of those impacted by the flood, highlighting their challenges, recovery efforts, and the strength they found within their communities.As part of this project, I am also writing a paper and presentation that explores themes of recovery, stewardship, and resilience in the aftermath of the hurricane. This paper examines how the community has responded to the disaster, the role of environmental stewardship in the recovery process, and the ways in which resilience manifests in both individual and collective efforts. Through this work, I am connecting the stories of survivors to broader environmental and social themes, contributing to the understanding of how communities rebuild and adapt in the face of adversity.

I had the unique opportunity to work hands-on with birds of prey, expanding my knowledge of their social behaviors and daily care requirements. My responsibilities included entering their enclosures to clean, provide fresh water, and monitor their food intake. I closely observed each bird’s behavior to ensure their well-being and reported any changes in activity or health.This role deepened my understanding of avian care and conservation while cultivating my skills in animal welfare, habitat maintenance, and behavior observation.

Costa Rica

During my time in Costa Rica, I conducted a transactional study on herpetofauna abundance and its correlation with leaf litter in a tropical forest ecosystem. This involved collecting and analyzing field data from various forest sites, which contributed to a deeper understanding of biodiversity and ecological patterns within tropical forests. I wrote and presented a research paper based on my findings, emphasizing the significance of leaf litter in supporting herpetofauna populations and contributing to the broader ecological understanding of the relationship between forest structure and species abundance. Additionally, I collaborated with professors and peers to refine research methods and findings, which helped me improve my scientific writing and data interpretation skills.

As President of the Blue Ridge Conservancy Club, I led efforts to align the club's events and communications with the nonprofit’s mission of promoting conservation in the Blue Ridge region.
