ABCD Torbay is a group of 4 Community Builders in Torbay;Jade and Victoria - BrixhamNathan - TorquayKatherine - Paignton. Community Builders find people who are known by and know their neighbours, these people we call connectors, they weave together the fabric of the neighbourhood through conversations with everyone and anyone, especially those most isolated and marginalised. The community Builders work with the connectors to try and get the community more involved with its own present and future, through creating these connections and creating a strongly bonded community.Often this is achieved through linking people through their passions, skills and hobbies to create groups in order to tackle social issues.Asset Based Community Development is a bottom up approach to community development and is based on the premise that all of the assets (physical, personal and organisational) are already their within the community in order for it to create a resilient, less isolated and better future. Identifying these assets through asset mapping is vital. Only after the assets have been mapped would you consider bringing in an outside idea/ skill/ group to assist with the community.
