z2zero is an extension of my current practice into new construction. The goal is simply a smarter shade of green home construction. The overall shape: a better (tighter, more insulating) envelope, more efficient conditioning and electrical plants, more conservative water usage, site generated renewable energy, and local community (service based) amenities such as greenhouses for green growing. The approach: integrate design, construction, engineering, and communication across boundaries that are hardened from a half century (or more) of energy laxity in building practice. The target: a resource positive building benefiting both owners and the community at large.

A new architectural imprint in the midwest (usa), founded to publish a book on Steven Holl Architects addition to The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. The Sixth Surface; Steven Holl Lights The Nelson-Atkins Museum is a collaboration among artists, essayists and poets to make a book that reflects the collaboration among architects, engineers and builders that made a building. Not your typical architecture book, we interpret the Bloch Building (and the artworks within) in works of imagination that are visual, discursive and poetic.The Sixth Surface is named for the innermost face of the innermost pane of glass that comprises the wall assembly for the Bloch Building (the sixth glass surface counting from the outside in).

Jack Rees Interiors is a design and production company specializing in architectural modifications to existing structures. We pride ourselves on our attention to detail and our ability to design and produce quality work in the following specialties: residential renovation; furniture design; publication design; interior design. Established by my father in 1955, we are the oldest design firm in continuous operation in Kansas City.
