TLDR; Learning and Development, Training, Diversity/Equity/Inclusion/Belonging, Program Management, Project Management, Program Assessment, Sourcing, Recruiting"Talks too much in class" was the most consistent commentary on my report cards growing up and my parents were convinced I'd become a lawyer because of it. When I began reading, you couldn't get me to stop. The local library would see me walking out with a stack of books so high they were blocking my vision as I ran home to devour them. Then I realized if I kept getting in trouble for talking too much (and reading in class), I could still get my message across with my writing. Book reports or hidden notes passed through the hallways, I was going to write my piece if I couldn't speak it. My 9th grade teacher once said, "Abdelis, you write like you speak." I don't think that was meant to be a compliment, but that's how I've held on to it. It's all about communication, right? Talking, reading, writing, telling stories, connecting with others, and sharing messages. I just can't get enough and that's what makes me good at what I do. I connect with others through the common threads that link us all. As a great mentor once said, "We're all one story away from common ground." I can capture an audience and that's what makes me a great educator. I'm a curious story collector which allows me to find the hidden talent all around us. I'm passionate about equity, so I speak fearlessly and elevate the narratives often untold.
