This position involves the management of the signal timing operations for the city of Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia, from the newly established Traffic Management Centre. This includes: • The use of TransSuite Traffic Control System to ensure the effective use of traffic signal timing plans and strategies are operating effectively.• Working with maintenance teams to ensure that system faults are identified and resolved.• Contributing to the implementation and development of the Traffic Management Centre by joining in efforts to improve working processes as well as development of system tools. • Liaising with external agencies in order to coordinate TMC activities for high profile special events as well as daily operational activities. • The training of staff on the system and standard operating procedures including the evaluation of Operator performance and taking action to manage any shortcomings.• Support for the Operation Manager in daily activities and advising on any operational issues for escalation.

As a PTCE I have directed and controlled a team of up to six engineers that undertake duties associated with maximising the performance of London’s traffic signal network. These include:• Utilising all signal control techniques in support of the Mayors Transport Policy.• Smoothing traffic flow through traffic signal timing review and SCOOT implementation.• Design and implementation of Urban Traffic Control and local control strategies.• Developments to Urban Traffic Control system to provide network management through techniques such as SCOOT, Gating, iBus (Bus Priority) and SASS associated with major programmes such as the Central London Congestion Charging Scheme and World Squares. • Review and implement revised traffic signal timings following detailed network modelling using tools such as TRANSYT, LINSIG, VISSIM, and SATURN, in order to ensure the efficient operation of the traffic network, in accordance with the Mayor’s Transport strategy.• Manage the UTC operational support desk in the London Streets Traffic Control Centre (LSTCC) associated with real-time traffic management for 24/7, 365 shift cover.• Manage the impacts of incidents in “Real Time” by providing bespoke signal timing strategies.• Liaise with operational stakeholders to provide a joined up solution to real time incidence as well as managing planned events.• Assimilating both technical and political information from numerous sources as well as disseminating to senior management at the appropriate level of technical language.• Provide specialist advice to clients and internal staff related to issues of traffic management and their respective impacts on the network.• I am also the Network Performance On-Call Engineer covering a 24/7 period once a month.
