From knowing Medical as the only viable career option till High School to completely skipping the idea of becoming a doctor to study Sociology & Anthropology, I am your average public school graduate who can read Iqbal and Bulleh Shah but Shakespeare also. During my four year Bachelor’s journey in Anthropology, I realized that I would never be a true Anthropologist unless I am well versed in local languages and culture. Hence, from journeying across the country’s borders for learning Arabic, Persian, and Punjabi alongside not losing touch with Urdu, I did all I could for absorbing the rich experiences that waited for me outside my curriculum for becoming a better Anthropologist. Eventually, I ended up as a research assistant at Gurmani Centre for Languages and Literature in Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) where my knowledge and experience come in handy for promoting the indigenous literary cultures and traditions. Apart from doing research, I have long been a teacher as well. Hence, I now envision my long-term future in the academic field of Education because I believe that at the root of all Socio-political and ecological crises lies our decrepit education system. For four years, I have also been leading my passion project: Baghban Plant World. It Started from selling plants to garner a sensitivity about nature and climate change. Today Baghban is a sustainable garden-lifestyle brand which provides bespoke gardening services with a hope to create more green spaces in the concrete jungles that we inhabit. I also give workshops on gardening to invite people towards reimagining this hobby as a therapy as well as an act of revolution!
