Project Manager: Inhassoro Dugong, seagrass and wedgefishes Conservation ProjectAs a project manager in Inhassoro, I am directly involved in the Dugong Conservation Project, engaging with two communities—Gatsala in the north and Tsondzo in the south of Inhassoro. My role revolves around fostering collaboration between the local communities, government offices, and other stakeholders to ensure the harmonious coexistence of our local people and the invaluable marine environments.Project responsibilities Description:1. **Education:** - MMF (Marine Megafauna Foundation) develops and implements marine conservation-based lessons in local schools, enhancing education and awareness among the local youth. These lessons focus on dugongs, wedgefishes, Seagrass, and conservation. - We extend our educational efforts to the adult community through a program of the Ocean Ambassadors. Community leaders, already engaged in marine conservation, are trained as Ocean Ambassadors to educate their communities through lessons.2. Research: - The project collaborates closely with the community to monitor techniques in Inhassoro, ensuring active community involvement in the monitoring process. -Involve communities members in the assessment of seagrass and empower communities in techniques to asses, and identify priority area for conservation of seagrass3. Alternative Livelihoods:-4. **Inspiration:** - As an innovative educational tool, we introduce Virtual Reality (VR) experiences to the community, offering a fresh perspective on the ocean for those deeply connected to it for their livelihoods. - MMF facilitates scuba diving trips through VR experiences, showcasing marine life such as mantas, turtles, and dugongs filmed in BANP (Bazaruto Archipelago National Park). By fostering a love for the ocean, we aim to shift the mindset from perceiving the ocean solely as a source of fear (drowning) and livelihood (food) to one that also includes love. - Additionally, we plan to organize an annual Dugong Festival, providing a platform for community members to engage by sharing their own experiences centered around dugongs and seagrass beds.
