Dr. Khan is a National Heart Foundation funded Research Fellow within the Department of Diabetes, Monash University, Australia. He joined the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Research Institute in 2009 when he started his Master’s degree in the Vascular Biology and Atherosclerosis Laboratory and worked on the role of B2 B cells in atherosclerosis. He undertook his PhD on the role of MeCP2 in the silencing of the Norepinephrine transporter gene in Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) with Prof. El-Osta and has produced five articles including three first authored original research papers in his PhD project (including a recently published article on EZH2 inhibition by GSK126 in POTS in Journal Circulation Research. After his PhD, he was awarded a scholarship to conduct postdoctoral training in the prestigious Karolinska Institute, Sweden, which is one of the world’s foremost medical Universities. At Karolinksa Institute, he joined the research team of Prof. Francesco Cosentino, a world leader in cardiovascular research. This work has resulted in the publications of first authored papers published in European Heart Journal (Vol 41, Issue 15, April 2020 Pages 1514-1519) and in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology (Oct 15, 2019). He was also awarded two highly competitive early career research grants during his postdoctoral training. He is a member of the executive and serves as the eNews editor of the Australian Atherosclerosis Society. Dr. Khan's work on epigenetic mechanisms in CVD promises to be a new exciting area in cardiovascular research
