Due to high speed, the leading edge material is subjected to enormous thermal load. Such aggressive heating can damage and ablate the control surface of the structural material (C/C). During my PhD, I designed and optimized a coating system made from refractory ceramic materials that could save the C/C from such damage and enhance safety during the flight. A US provisional patent application has been filed based on this technology with myself as the principal inventor. -
