In my first week of internship, I was placed in the Business development department and got the introduction of descon’s business and its competitors in India, Middle East and U.A.E. Our supervisor also told me about the value chain of Descon. Before I came to Descon I didn’t have any idea about descon’s marketing process that either it’s B to C marketing or B to B, but as soon as I started my internship, I realized that its B to B marketing because Descon provides it’s EPC, E and EP services to different other engineering “companies” who are not capable to make engineering designs and also provides procurement (equipment’s for construction) and construction services to many companies. Here, I realized how to “work smarter than work harder”.My field of interest is marketing but it was also my desire to know about working in finance department so the task also given to me by my supervisor was to make capital budgeting (NPV) model of JDW power (pvt) Ltd on Microsoft excel sheet. In this task, I learnt that how NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) makes weighted average schedule based on different energy charges and on capacity purchase prices and find out NPV of total project life with the help of weighted average schedule.The other tasks given to me was to make excel sheet of all hydro power and coal projects in Pakistan and to list all the information related to the project’s duration, cost, status, funding sources, price/MW in million and to further comment on them. This task increased my data searching skills.
