From the Pen, to the Pin™LIFE CAN CHANGE IN AN INSTANT. On October 22nd, 2012, I was 5 minutes from my home riding my Harley, when I was hit by a car, causing me to get wrapped around a pedestrian pole.The car never stopped.I was airlifted to a hospital 30 miles away & immediately taken into surgery to save my life. I endured multiple surgeries for my injuries, including compound fracture of my left humerus causing brachial plexus, torn bladder, & comminuted pelvis. My right arm thankfully was unscathed, but my left arm & leg had severe nerve damage. On the 23rd, I went into surgery for Compartment Syndrome below my right knee to save my leg. The upper leg was dead on the 24th, so they amputated my right leg above the knee in order to save my life. I lost more than 100 units of blood, 10x the average amount humans hold. No other living person received that much blood in the hospital's history & survived. I was in the ICU for the next 10 days, recovered in the hospital for 6 weeks, & came home just in time for Christmas!In 2014, my wife Priscilla & I turned my tragedy into AMPLIFE™, a lifestyle brand offering unique, inspiring, high quality apparel representing that Amputee Life®, empowering amputees, able bodied, & adaptives all over the world! It was a rough area in the 1990's, resulting in me being shot in the foot & back on 2 separate occasions & doing 5 years behind bars at the California Youth Authority, San Quentin, Jamestown, & Vacaville penitentiaries. After being released, I was a journeyman sheetmetal worker in San Francisco for 14 years until my forced retirement.I started golfing in 2000 after work with co-workers. To learn golf, I read Tiger Woods’ book, “How I Play Golf”. I loved it before my accident so while recovering from my near-fatal hit & run motorcycle accident, I played Tiger Woods Golf on Wii & stood with my walker to hit the ball as mental & physical therapy. Trying any way to get back on the greens, I went to the driving range, hitting with one arm, cane in the other arm, standing with my walker. On my 3 year accident anniversary, I played a round. 2nd hole, 2nd shot, I lost my balance & fell back, breaking my left wrist. I played 2 more holes then went to the ER. After that, I researched online for an adaptive golf cart, & discovered the Paragolfer (the machine I'm strapped in).Now, I've become a decorated adaptive golfer inspiring others to live their life to the fullest!
