Nexon is a PE-backed high-growth technology company with operations across NSW, QLD, VIC and SA. I began my journey with Nexon assisting the CFO in delivering a significant sell-side M&A transaction where EQT Partners, a global investment firm, took majority stake in Nexon. Post this transaction, my role evolved to include corporate accounting duties where I was responsible for group consolidations, management and board packs with insightful analysis and commentary around performance variance from target for P&L, balance sheet and cash flow. I was also responsible for treasury function where I managed covenant reporting for debt positions to support bolt-on acquisitions. Committed to continuous improvement, I helped Nexon free up $0.5m tied up in working capital facility by transitioning bank facilities to another bank. I managed risk by negotiating bank guarantee text and insurance covers for the group and assisted in monthly financial close process.Working in high-pressure M&A-driven environment, the role also offered exposure to buy-side M&A accounting including post-merger integration of four bolt-on acquisitions. Digital transformation being at the heart of Nexon’s growth agenda I had the opportunity to partner with wider finance and technical teams to rollout various business and financial systems. In performance of my duties, I reported to General Manager Finance and enjoyed significant engagement with various internal and external stakeholders.

Metis Management Consultancy is a Dubai-based boutique consulting firm. They provide a range of tailored accounting, business and management consulting services. My engagement with Metis was on a special government assignment. Mohammed Bin Rashid Fund for SME (MBRF) is a Dubai government entity. They provide funding to SMEs under relaxed lending terms to foster SME growth in U.A.E. Per the arrangement, Metis was to provide post fund monitoring services to MBRF in the form of quarterly executive reporting. The reporting included analysis of business performance in light of business strategy and highlighting risks. The findings of this reporting were the basis of advice to MBRF in relation to actions required by SME management to ensure improved business performance and timely repayment of loan.I engaged with leaderships of 15+ SMEs for compilation and delivery of quarterly executive report to Metis partner for onward submission to MBRF.
Weekend Concierge
In the transitional period, I also worked as a Weekend Concierge at Omnia; an iconic 130-apartment residential building situated at the heart of Sydney - the bustling Potts Point. The customer-facing aspect of the role helped me appreciate and blend into the diverse Australian culture. I also learnt about building management and safety.
Food Delivery Driver | Uber Eats
Having moved to Australia in April 2018, I began delivering food for Uber Eats while I searched for suitable role to resume my finance career. As a food delivery person, not only did I learn to navigate around Sydney better, this experience also made me humble and more patient. In the process I learnt about delivering high quality customer service and maintained 5 Star customer rating. I drove about 10,000 KM over the course of six months delivering food to hundreds of happy customers in and around Sutherland Shire in Sydney's south.
Finance Manager | Civil | U.A.E., Algeria & Jordan
Drake & Scull is a listed construction company with footholds in Middle East, North Africa, India and Europe. Managing a team of six in U.A.E. in addition to oversight and training responsibilities of four joint venture accountants across U.A.E., Algeria and Jordan, I had full ownership of end-to-end finance function for civil operations grossing $150m annually. Among the iconic projects in progress were The Pointe at Atlantis the Palm and The Circle Mall. In a strictly deadline-driven environment, I led monthly financial close, delivered statutory and management reporting, managed inter-company accounting with 10+ global inter-company partners, led transition and onward compliance for indirect tax (VAT) while supporting internal audit and leading external audit engagements. On a regular basis, I kept management abreast of potential on and off-balance sheet risks. The role demanded significant cash flow and working capital management. Leveraging my stakeholder management and negotiation skills, I built and maintained relationships with clients, supply chain and banking partners and took necessary measures to reduce cash cycle. Other external stakeholders I engaged with included lawyers and arbitration experts. I also partnered with project managers and various functions across the organisation. There were a number of exciting transformational assignments I delivered in partnership with critical stakeholders, in particular after Tabarak Investments, a U.A.E.-based PE, took stake in the company in 2017. In this role I had dual reporting to Managing Director – U.A.E. Civil and Finance Director positions.
Chief Accountant | Civil | U.A.E.
Finance Manager
Employing ~120 people and operating in the engineering space, Canon Engineering Industries (CEI) had a growing presence in the U.A.E., Oman and Saudi Arabia before it wound up in March 2015. With the assistance of one accountant, in this hands-on role, I was responsible for independently managing end-to-end finance function while supporting project operations across three countries. In this role I wore many hats and had the opportunity to develop an entrepreneurial mindset by working directly with the Managing Director, to whom I provided advice and support in matters related to finance, legal, commercial and administration. In this well-rounded role, I delivered statutory and management reporting, managed banking and treasury, insurance, led audit and compliance related matters. I visited project sites within and outside of U.A.E. to address project financial matters with client finance teams. I heavily engaged with vendors, clients and banks to ensure maintenance of adequate liquidity levels. Due to tighter liquidity conditions in the U.A.E. market in the aftermath of 2008 financial crisis, the local banks were reluctant to lend credit for an overseas project. Utilising my communication, presentation and technical accounting skills, combined with strong understanding of business, I prepared and presented a significant business case to the bank and successfully secured project finance for first overseas project for the company.

Paramount Spinning Mills (PSM) was part of Gulistan Textile Mills Ltd – a large public-listed vertically-integrated textile group in Pakistan. The company operated in the fashion and apparel space and served globally renowned apparel brands including Levi’s and Aeropostale.I assisted finance manager in banking and treasury related matters. In this supporting role, I was exposed to cash flows of the company and put my hands in various financing vehicles including letter of credits (LC) and their discounting, leases, working capital and capex loans. Due to the export-based nature of the business, the company was exposed to forex (FX) fluctuations. I also had the opportunity to assist CFO with the documentation and correspondence with corporate treasury in relation to Forward Exchange Contracts (FECs) he negotiated with various banks, predominantly for USD and Euro currencies.
