This role was literally the backbone of the production cycle of the translation team. My responsibilities included:- Making sure source material for translation was available for the local translation team on time and that the team always had work to jump on to once their running project is complete.- Scheduling tasks for audio-video technicians in the team so that there is no clash of projects and recording resources are used judiciously.- Coordinating with technical teams in Bangalore to help local translation team with the needed technical support.- Educating around 300 voice actors on the proper workflow for carrying out voice recording right from their homes using minimum equipment.- Ensuring all concerns from the translation team members, both of technical and linguistic nature, are handled promptly.- Foreseeing need for extra personnel in case of a major upcoming project or even suggesting most suited team formations based on the experience and skillset of the team members.- Coordinating tasks and scheduling them for transcribers who help in typing down translated vernacular audio into script, especially for print literature.

Tasks included:- Setup recording studio before a project- Recording vernacular audio (using Avid ProTools) from the voice actor and guide him/her throughout the session on how to give the best vocal output.- Rough editing the recorded audio which includes cutting out unwanted noises and syncing with English audio.- Fine editing the audio by adjusting EQ, Compression and add special effects as needed.- Audio mastering and syncing the fine edited audio with the video footage (using Final Cut Pro) and export as final video.For a few months, this was all carried out in recording studio. Once the pandemic hit though, all of these steps were to be done remotely. Hence, I contributed actively in coming up with solutions that enabled voice actors to record their audio from their homes using their mobile device without sacrificing on the quality of the audio. My prompt and timely participation in this problem-solving situation saved weeks of valuable production time that would have otherwise gotten spent on tedious changes in workflow.

Handled technical problems pertaining to Windows OS, Mac OS, MS Office and a few custom-built programs for translation of online and print literature from English to vernacular Indian languages. This role demanded quick decision-making and good interpersonal skills, so as to arrive at the most suited solutions. My role included:- Coordinating with translators and designers regarding changes to alphabet repositories.- Troubleshooting technical problems and make judgement calls as to whether finding a permanent solution or a workaround is best for the present scenario- Maintaining equipment inventory of the translation teams.- Oversee major updates or a series of updates that are regularly deployed for the translation software.- Educate everyone in the translation teams including new joinees on best practices and workflows for certain technical procedures.- Train all in the team to come up to speed with updates in their software.- Carry out safe and smooth transfer of data in case of need for server migration and ensure data is backed up regularly.
