    Master’s Thesis: Role of Passive Vortex Generators (PVGs) in Fighter Aircraft Engine Air-Flow Control • Self-proposed project for Master’s Thesis, researching into the mechanisms behind the effectiveness of my design for the PVGs using CFD and FE analyses in combination with experimental data obtained from conducting test runs in the wind tunnel. Project involved fabrication of PVGs with an innovative design developed through a NASA proprietary aerodynamic shape optimization code. • Successfully conceptualized and presented the proposal, along with preliminary CFD and FE analyses, in simulation using CATIA, Fluent and Hypermesh to obtain funding for the experiments. • Created and operated a custom test rig inside a 3’x5’ subsonic wind-tunnel, including a scaled down stealth aircraft serpentine-inlet made from carbon fiber, 3D printed PVGs, and pressure DAQ device connections. • Improvised and calibrated a pressure measurement device, and a mechanism to simulate engine throughput constraints using a vacuum cleaner for a realistic simulation, in both cases obviating expensive dedicated lab equipment. • Conducted case studies to evaluate design integrity, uncertainty errors, manufacturing capability, and cost/weight trade off. • Completed the project using only 1/8th of the assigned initial budget, and graduated a semester early.
