Abhinav Iyer is a political researcher and experienced journalist studying Political Science at The University of Michigan. He commenced an immersion into social work as a column writer for Khabar Magazine, where his work outlining the South Asian role in the Black Lives Matter movement was a front cover story in June 2019. His work in journalism would continue through 2023, holding both writing and editing roles with The Unfinished Business blog, Speculator Media, and The Teen Dispatch. As a contributor to numerous mayoral and gubernatorial canvassing projects in his hometown of Johns Creek, GA, Abhinav became well-versed in political rhetoric and public opinion, sparking his policy interests. This led Abhinav to pursue an internship with the Environmental Voter Project in the summer of 2024, a nonprofit organization focused on getting out the vote to environmentalists; it was in this role that he learned to navigate the NGPVan database and conducted rigorous direct voter contact across 19 states. Abhinav's first experience with political research was under PH.D. Candidate Meagan Burt to analyze trends of diplomatic interaction within the United Nations Universal Periodic Review. For the past year, he has continued his research passions with Caroline Lindey, immersing himself in data cleaning, wrangling, and analysis as it relates to the Chilean Pinochet Regime and their use of Torture Centers in repression. He also currently works as the Co-Founder and Co-Director of Technique, a nonprofit organization focused on augmenting the technological skillsets of humanities focused students as a means to enter the job market with more confidence. Abhinav is further as a political consultant with the Michigan Political Consulting Organization, using his skills in R, GIS Mapping, and qualitative research to provide data-derived solutions to MPC's clients.
