Dr. Abiche Dewilde is passionate about finding novel methods to combat cancer and enjoys the challenges in early-stage companies. Her titles included VP Research & Lab Operations at Onco Filtration, where she worked on a system for capturing circulating tumor cells (CTCs) for diagnosis. In addition to her years of experience in biomedical devices, cancer biology, cell biology, drug research, clinical trials and animal research, Dr. Dewilde has extensive experience with multiple aspects of cell and animal-based drug discovery and development. Dr. Dewilde is the founder and Chief Scientific Officer of InVitroMetrix, which created a self-contained, cell-based multi-well research device for drug discovery. InVitroMetrix was spawned from Dr. Dewilde’s postdoctoral fellowship, where she refined a multi-well cell-based QCM Biosensor for phenotypic cell drug discovery, toxicity testing, and cancer diagnosis, a technology that was subsequently patented. Before this, Dr. Dewilde’s PhD research involved developing the quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) as a whole-cell biosensor for detecting therapeutics efficacy or drug toxicity. Dr. Dewilde has worked in animal research at Millennium Pharmaceuticals subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical) and the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Dr. Dewilde conducted research on multiple grants on tissue and limb regeneration, extracellular matrix isolation, cancer treatment using Nano particle conjugated targeted therapies, nano-toxicology research, and cancer toxicology research using the Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM). Patents Multi-well Quartz Crystal Microbalance mass and viscoelastic sensor. Acoustic wave (aw) sensing devices using live cells. Dr. Dewilde was also a visiting professor for the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where she taught Quantitative Physiology, Bioinstrumentation, and Introduction to Biomedical Engineering. She has mentored two award-winning DifferenceMaker teams that competed at the University of Massachusetts Entrepreneurship and prototyping competitions.
