Community Development-Volunteer
Kenya
I spent 3 months volunteering alongside other young people in Northern Kenya to support women and youth run livelihood improvement projects. As the team leader in my group, I identified service gaps and located needed resources for groups, including funding and other support. Trained women and self-help groups on business and marketing, record keeping, table banking, and hygiene. Did peer education in schools on relevant topics such as hygiene and health, study habits, and career development. Collaborated on program operations with work counterparts, including offering feedback from participants and improvement recommendations. Detailed program operations and participant activities with comprehensive record keeping. Mobilised the community and created awareness on environmental conservation, maternal health through walks and campaigns and tree planting.Key Accomplishments:-I successfully organised financial training with Equity bank for women groups training, with over 100 women trained and supported to open bank accounts for their savings.-I initiated a poultry farming project for a support group, enabling them to sustain their daily livelihoods. I am told the project is still running up to today.
