Marketing And Graphic Design
Designing a range of marketing materials including brochures and business cards whilst also managing social media channels. Returning to JCL to assist with the brand launch at Decorex International 2017. I worked the 4 show days meeting and speaking with trade customers and fellow designers explaining the design process and business practice.I wired and built the lights into the show stand and put up signage I had designed and laser-cut and helped to dismantle entirely when the show was over.
Collaboration Project
In collaboration with Plumen, the creators of the 001 decorative light blub, I was chosen to design a state of the art light for my major project. Inspired by Plumen’s futuristic design style using 3D printing technology and smart materials. When the light is turned on an organic transformation begins to occur, utilising the lost heat from the 001 CFL lamp. The colour change flares up the 3D printed geometric structure, designed to fit modularly with no fittings using gravity to Plumen’s existing light fitting acting as a large fractal heat sink, changing the black surface to a vibrant colour spectrum. This effect is achieved through the application of liquid crystal ink to the surface of the black ABS 3D printed part, changing as the surface temperature moves between 22 and 30 degrees Celsius.
Product Designer
JCL Studio are high-end bespoke lighting designers, experimenting with light, materials, and technology, pushing the boundaries of conventional illumination unconstrained by scale or form. I was included within every stage of the design process, assembling lighting by hand in the workshop, attending client and design meetings through to on-site installations. I interacted with clients at a high level within retail, hospitality and private sectors, working for clients including Burberry, Spears + Major, Four Seasons, The Savoy, and Mathmos as well as private clients. I played a big role in the company rebrand creating marketing materials to reflect the company style. One of my main responsibilities was bringing to life designs from our team meetings, creating 3D models in Solidworks and rendering them using Keyshot, portraying the light effect and surface finish. From the digital models, I would generate accurate part drawings to hand over to local glass and metal machinists. We developed a collection of lighting where I was the sole creator of the ‘Clemente’ Pendant, taking it from initial design stages, through to manufacture and in-house assembly (pictured below). One of my proudest moments at JCL was designing and building by hand a minimalist kitchen light which I installed into Highgate House later featured on Grand Designs in their RIBA House of the Year Award 2017.
