Abigail Gamble, Phd Email and Phone Number
I am an implementation scientist with expertise in multi-level interventions to improve Black maternal cardiometabolic health and advance maternal health equity. I have a strong portfolio of competitively funded research guided by theoretical and ecological frameworks to study sociocultural, psychosocial, and policy and environmental determinants of health and health disparities. I am the Principal Investigator of the Teen Mom Study (1U54GM115428), which is the first known intervention study in pregnant Black adolescents in the United States. This line of research is supported by my long-standing partnership with the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), which was recognized for Excellence in Community-Engaged Research in 2019 by the McLean Institute for Public Service and Community Engagement (University of Mississippi). I have demonstrated the feasibility and acceptability of mHealth intervention strategies in pregnant adolescents. I am currently testing the feasibility and acceptability of an evidence-based peer health coach training intervention to address social needs in young adult WIC moms (2 U66RH31459‐04‐00). Coaches will be trained to draw on their lived experiences to support pregnant adolescents in addressing social needs and supporting health behavior changes during pregnancy (P50MD017338). The scope of the Teen Mom Study was expanded in 2022 to include Mississippi Momnibus, an implementation trial evaluating strategies for building cross-sector partnerships to improve Black maternal health.
