The course is based around a week-long healthcare simulation and utilises an array of practical exercises throughout to enable theoretical delivery, practical learning, consolidation of learned skills and experiences of near-real-world environments. I have been the Clinical Lead from the beginning & developed the simulation that is used throughout the course and I also facilitate during the courses. The first course ran in January 2021 & was a great success, with courses booked throughout 2021 & early 2022, where I will continue in my role as the Clinical Lead, curriculum development & facilitation. -

My role included managing my own caseload of investigations as a lead and support investigator. HSIB (Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch) aims to reduce the number of stillbirths, neonatal and maternal deaths & neonatal brain injuries & investigates serious incidents reportable to the RCOG (Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) for the Each Baby Counts, a national quality improvement programme. Cases are referred by the Trusts & are allocated a lead and support investigator. I reviewed the medical records, formulated lines of enquiry & conducted staff & family interviews, as well as consult any subject matters advisors where necessary. I wrote a report detailing the incident, findings & analysis & any safety recommendations. All our reports form part of the national work developing the common themes for these incidents across the country. I acted as a Trust & family liaison, supporting & providing feedback during the investigation process. I also provided teaching to local university students and participated in clinical panel reviews of cases. -

However due to complications with this project, I assisted the Research Team with their ongoing projects & worked in the Fetal Medicine Unit, running clinics, assisting with invasive testing & providing support & advice for women with high-risk pregnancies, as well as those with a poor obstetric history. I also provided routine antenatal care & booking appointments with these women. This busy Fetal Medicine Unit saw over 5,000 patients a year, involving 700 prenatal diagnostic procedures. Unfortunately, the initial research project I was employed for was no longer available, therefore I had to leave this post. -
