I have supervised two to three sections of twenty-five students each semester as a teaching assistant, helping them to think critically about primary and secondary sources, as well as developing writing skills and test-taking strategies. I have also worked individually with students who were struggling in order to help them tackle the material and succeed in the course.

In this research assistantship, I processed colonial Spanish hospital records to identify demographic data such as gender, caste, and place of origin, in aid of Dr. Clark’s project attempting to discover if and how members of the African diaspora existed outside the formal government of Veracruz, Mexico. In doing so I developed my skills in paleography, deciphering seventeenth century text and translating marginalia and non-demographic text into English.

As an intern for Mission Hospital, I helped to support their health work by assisting their 15,000 employees with technical difficulties. I troubleshot computers and medical technology as part of their information technology team, and followed up unresolved issues, working with a diverse range of employees from janitorial staff to administrative workers, but primarily with nurses and doctors. I communicated each week’s clients to the volunteer lawyers, as well as calling clients with their appointment information and ensuring that their records were up to date. I researched HIV and AIDS for the Center for Diversity Education. This research was for a curriculum I designed in order to educate LGBTQ youth on Human Immunodeficiency Virus. In this role I also trained in workplace and hiring justice.
