Through my education at Ferris State University I am currently engaged in a therapy internship/practicum at Life Journey Psychological Services, where I am developing skills in person-centered therapy, couples therapy modality (Gottman Method), relationship patterns, coping skills, social skills, psychoeducation, and more. My training is focused on providing compassionate, empathetic and evidence-based support to individuals facing a variety of mental health disorders and challenges. Through hands-on experience I support clients with assessment, treatment planning, and interventions. I am committed to fostering a supportive and safe environment for clients through empowering their goals and utilizing their strengths. As a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, I am dedicated to addressing stigmas and advocating for my clients goals/needs, as necessary. I continue to work to educate myself and utilizing professional development opportunities to best serve my clients.

As a Professional Aide for Dr. Santiago, I primarily perform research assistant duties on the Making Ends Meet Detroit research study. Some of these tasks include facilitating and note-taking for focus groups/interviews, transcribing interview data, coding interview data at multiple levels using Atlas.ti software, performing thematic analysis of data, and providing support to other research assistants on the study. As an undergraduate research assistant I worked on Dr. Anna Santiago's Making Ends Meet Detroit research study which has the purpose of understanding how the COVID-19 pandemic affected family care resources and families’ ability, more specifically, women’s ability to participate in the labor force. As an undergraduate research assistant, I was able to assist with this study by helping facilitate interviews/focus groups and transcribing interviews verbatim. Using Atlas.ti software, moreover, I was able to code and analyze interview data. After identifying preliminary themes and preliminary findings I was then able to present some of these preliminary findings at Michigan State University’s 2023 Undergraduate Research and Arts Forum (UURAF).

The Pathway to Research Program guides students through the process of finding a research mentor. The 3-week program is centered on 3 steps. First, student participants will understand the benefits of undergraduate research and creative scholarship. Next, participants will determine their research area of interest. Finally, they will identify and contact potential mentors, prepare to interview with them, and ultimately secure a research position. We’ve identified these critical milestones that existing student researchers have achieved on the way to securing a research position and have created a combination of advising, programming, and check-in sessions to connect students to potential research pathways and guide them along the way.- The Program Advisor for the Pathway to Research program provides tailored 1:1 advising to student participants in their assigned cohort to help them accomplish the program goals.- The Program Advisor works with the team to prepare for and facilitate program sessions including, orientation, panel discussion, and reflection sessions.- The Program Advisor journals advising sessions with student participants, providing documentation for program.

As a part-time (16 hours a week) case management intern I maintained a caseload of about 20 clients and assisted client's with a variety of needs. Examples of tasks completed in my internship included:-Coordinated effective client treatment through collaboration with medical and support staff.-Protected and detailed patient data and documentation with a secure records management system.-Developed and implemented effective intervention methods to empower clients to meet their treatment plan goals.-Created proposal for Technology 101 Workshop, received approval, and implemented two pilot workshops in March 2024 & April 2024

As a part-time Administrative Intern with the Homeless Action Network of Detroit, I had four main goals around which my intern tasks revolved: •Policies and ProceduresTo accomplish this goal I helped to redline, rebuild, and update the coordinated entry policies and procedures manual known as the “2023 CAM Policies and Procedures Manual for Detroit, MI.” In assistance with other HAND staff members, we created a policies and procedures manual that thoroughly explained the processes of the coordinated entry for the homelessness system in Detroit in accordance with HUD outlines.•Nonprofit Workflow and StructureTo accomplish this goal I helped create an organizational chart and staff directory to understand HAND’s workflow. •Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)To accomplish this goal I trained and received an HMIS certification for Detroit. •Grant WritingTo accomplish this goal I was a participant of the Grant Opportunity Workgroup and wrote an executive summary for the grant application our workgroup was working on. Participating in grant opportunity meetings, moreover, helped me to better understand researching grant opportunities and the persuasive, informative, and concise language needed to grant writing. Other tasks completed during my internship include assistance with CoC funding, co-facilitating the Fundraising Committee, meeting minutes for a variety of meetings, assistance with the LMS Internal committee, and participating in the Newsletter Committee-creating and contributing a “Housing Assistance Guide” infographic for July newsletter.

As an MSU Tour Guide I lead prospective students, parents, families, visitors and alumni on walking tours of MSU’s campus, as well as lead neighborhood and residence hall/apartment tours.

From March 2022 through September 2022 I worked on Dr. Merry Morash's Improving Probation & Parole Research Study through the School of Criminal Justice. Through this study, I was able to gain professional and academic experience working with adults on probation and parole, developing interviewing skills, and developing data collection experience.Some of the tasks I performed while working on the study include interviewing participants, obtaining consent from participants to participate, contacting potential participants for study participation, and organization of data collection.
