• Discovered the prior use of campus land by identifying potential on-campus sites for archaeological excavation to clarify its historical use and identify ties to indigenous and enslaved populations. • Conducted a field excavation from Feb-April 2023 on the chosen site, and processed, catalogued finds in a laboratory setting.• Analyzed former Furman President Plyler’s (1939-1964) financial documents, memos, meeting minutes, governmental documents, deeds, and land survey results in order to gather information on who previously owned the land.• Conducted in-depth genealogical research of the ancestors of those who previously owned campus lands, continuing as far back as the 18th century• Initiated the compilation of research data in online family trees, to establish a process for future project researchers to build on.• Performed field research at Traveler’s Rest History Museum, and various local cemeteries to investigate research subjects’ ties to the wider community.• Trained 2 new student researchers to use cohesive methodology and programs.• Compiled then presented the history of previous landowners at Furman Engaged, a campus-wide research symposium.

[Officially permitted by Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports]• Excavated and analyzed a variety of archaeological structures and artifacts ranging from the Mesolithic to late Neolithic/possible early Bronze Age, in order to determine the use and larger contextual purpose of the site.• Identified general typologies of ceramic, lithic, and biological artifacts recovered from the site, and sorted them accordingly for off-season storage.• Learned skills such as Flotation, and ceramic artifact cleaning.• Collected geospatial data using a total station to record detailed field notes to be used by the Gourimadi team’s specialists.
