-Worked with state, local and federal-level changemakers to advance equity in the teaching profession. Produced and supervised policy analysis, written reports, briefs, and blog posts on topics including teacher diversity, teacher shortages, teacher working conditions, and more.-Oversaw team of analysts to collect detailed policy data across 50 states and the District of Columbia. Designed new policy data projects, including the organization's first 50 state scan of teacher diversity policies, and the organization's first-ever analysis of teachers' access to paid parental leave. -Produced some of the organization's highest engagement and press coverage rates for publications. Select publications included: State of the States: Teacher Diversity, which was covered in outlets including Education Week, the 74, and state news outlets; 'How Many School Districts Offer Paid Parental Leave,' which has been cited in numerous national outlets including the Wall Street Journal, CBS News, Education Week and for which I was interviewed on NPR's All Things Considered. -Provided policy recommendations, technical assistance and campaign coaching to policymakers and advocates seeking customized data sets, model policies and research background on policy issues relevant to the teaching profession.-Selected policy wins included Illinois' first comprehensive statewide evidence-based early literacy law, and New Mexico law requiring additional transparency in purchasing evidence-based literacy curricula. -Led external engagement efforts across multiple projects, including leading advisory committees to design and receive feedback on new projects; hosting webinars for policymakers and advocates on relevant topics in teacher policy; developing and administering surveys and facilitating focus groups to inform NCTQ's strategic planning.-Partnered with the field to advance shared policy priorities, including coalition to reauthorize the Higher Education Act's Title II.

Provide strategic advising and research support to education policy, advocacy and community organizing organizations.

-Designed and executed teacher-led national advocacy campaigns. Monitored and advised on federal education policy and politics, facilitated teacher advisory groups, convened national coalitions of education organizations, and lobbied on behalf of teachers on Capitol Hill. -Monitored national, state and local policy developments to advise leaders in six cities, ensuring that state advocacy campaigns led to policy wins that advanced equity for students and the teaching profession. Identified urgent and strategically-aligned issues, designed national advocacy actions and coached local chapters to take action. -Reviewed external collateral, such as press releases and digital content, to ensure policy alignment, evidence base for claims, and minimize political risk. Drafted messages and talking points for senior leadership. Collaborated to produce the organization's National Teacher Survey. -Coached staff in six chapters in policy skills needed to support and win teacher-led policy development and advocacy campaigns. Designed, trained staff and oversaw the organization’s new model for creating teacher-led campaigns. -Represented E4E in partnerships with external partners and stakeholders, including coalition to reauthorize the Higher Education Act's Title II, and the Reimagine, Represent Teacher Diversity Coalition. As part of the Reimagine, Represent Coalition, successfully lobbied Congress for critical investments in a diverse teacher workforce as part of the American Rescue Plan.

-Designed and executed learning experiences for education leaders (including state chiefs, district superintendents, Chief Academic Officers, and non-profit leaders) to grow their leadership capacity for transformational change. -Co-authored and led communications and promotion strategy for a suite of nine tools for new policymakers. At the invitation of the National Governors Association, trained more than thirty State Workforce Board chairs to use workforce engagement tool. -Co-wrote and project-managed a guide for school leaders on integrating social, emotional and academic learning. Presented implications of the guide to national cohort of school board members.-Designed and project-managed public and private events on timely issues in K-12 education. -Led ongoing improvement of Program’s knowledge management systems. Created systems to track progress on grant requirements and internal metrics of success. Designed and launched Aspen Education’s first annual external survey and analyzed results to guide three-year strategic planning. -Designed and implemented strategy to improve team competence in diversity, equity and inclusion.

-Managed the Education Policy Program’s college and career readiness policy portfolio, with a focus on equity, closing opportunity gaps and the transition from high school to postsecondary education and the workforce. -Analyzed both qualitative and quantitative data and authored data visualizations. Researched and wrote policy papers, memos, public comments, blogs, op-eds, grant proposals and grant reports.-Wrote for EdCentral, Washington Monthly, the 74 and Pacific Standard. Acted as an expert source for news organizations including the Financial Times, Associated Press and Marketwatch.-Presented at conferences, sat on panel discussions and moderated events on education policy and best practice.-Built and maintained strong relationships with education policymakers and thought leaders across the country; provided technical assistance and informal advising to these leaders.
