After less than a year of supporting the Executive Director and Office Manager as general office help, I was promoted to Land Protection Specialist. I focus on meeting the requirements of our land stewardship program by monitoring properties, developing solid relationships with easement owners and carrying out stewardship plans for fee properties. I also help reach out to new easement prospects and assist with easement negotiations. Developing a new monitoring protocol that enables better land management is something that I am proud of. I developed the curriculum and coordinate The Young Naturalist Club, an after school program that teaches kids about conservation and about the different ecosystems on the island by taking them on field trips to different land trust properties. Other than the fun the kids have, my favorite thing about this program is working with a dozen wonderful volunteers. Like any non-profit, EIOLT throws several large fund raisers each year. I've found an outlet for my organizational talents in inventorying and promoting 120+ silent and live auction items for our annual auction. I also assist with event set up, break down and volunteer coordination. I also write and design much of what is read by our members and other supporters: newsletter articles, email updates, website content, Facebook posts, posters and visuals for events and other promotional literature.

The Ashokan Center is a residential outdoor education center usually serving fourth to seventh grade school groups. Working at the Ashokan Center significantly broadened my content knowledge. In addition to teaching environmental science classes such as aquatic ecology, I taught blacksmithing and team building classes. I also reenacted history as an early 1800s school marm and homesteader. Staying with students overnight in the cabins taught me new skills for dealing with homesickness and behavior problems. As lead instructor, I trained new instructors to teach classes, run meals, supervise the bunks and interact with the students during downtime. I created interpretive signs for the Center's native plant restoration projects and pollinator garden and updated written communications to be sent out to teachers, like the class offerings catalog below.

I taught children how important and wonderful the Hudson River Estuary is. Using Scenic Hudson parks as outdoor classrooms, we seined for fish, studied wetland macro-invertebrates, sampled river water quality, identified trees, watched birds and combed the shoreline for historical artifacts. During in-class lessons we discussed pollution, land use planning and other environmental issues. Most of my students where in elementary school, but I worked with high school science classes as well. I coordinated with the teachers' curricula to provide field trips that reinforced classroom learning.The Spring Sprint trail run and the outdoor concerts series were my favorite events to promote and assist with. After eight months of assisting with events, I planned, promoted and led my own education programs, including four days of family oriented spring break activities.I led groups of volunteers on trail maintenance and natural resources management workdays and coordinated a three day trail work project with 45 volunteers. During my rare office time, I wrote interpretive brochures and signs about Scenic Hudson parks and management practices.

The City's Sustainability Office needed their carbon inventory Excel workbook to generate monthly and yearly reports for each city department. I made that happen.

For the first year, I soldered switchboards for a student designed device that monitored energy use in campus buildings. I created a spreadsheet to track and analyze all campus buildings' utility use. Using this spreadsheet, the Energy Services Crew selected buildings to energy audit. I assisted with auditing and reporting. The second year, I supervised and trained eight other students in energy auditing and utility data tracking while working on the college's strategic energy management plan.
