• Perform testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems using specialized and calibrated instruments to measure system performance following National balancing council (NBC) standards. Record actual values for pressure, temperature, rotation speed, velocity, and flows for an audit and to improve the system performance.• Communicate with the design engineers to clarify changes in design, and provide a technical explanation on the causes impeding a system to reach design performance.• Coordinate the site visits and work schedule with the mechanical firm installer, the general contractor, the building operations firm, or the owner.• Perform system adjustments using balancing dampers, circuit balancing valves, VFDs (variable frequency drives) to ensure designed performance. • Read and interpret system blueprints, mechanical drawings, specifications, and performance data to determine the proper configuration and arrangement of system components.• Work responsibly and as a team member in the field to diagnose, adjust, test, and balance mechanical equipment including but not limited to: exhaust fans, air handling units, heating chilled water pumps to achieve optimal performance.• Maintain proper documentation of daily work using work order and report, properly outlining all Test & Balance work performed and deficiencies in compliance with criteria for system function, performance, and maintainability.

Performing air and hydronic measurements on the HVAC systems and adjusting the flows as required to achieve optimum performance of the building environmental equipment. The balancing is usually based upon the design flow values required by the mechanical engineer for the project, and the TAB contractor submits a written report which summarizes the testing and balancing and notes any deficiencies found during the testing, balancing, and commissioning work.
