Andrea's career began with a B.S. in Meteorology at Penn State University and has over 18 years of federal service with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).As a student she interned with the National Weather Service (NWS), was hired as satellite controller with NOAA, and briefly worked in the private sector as an Observation Systems Analyst. She returned to NWS as a physical scientist to the Office of Science and Technology. In 2008, Andrea was tapped to serve the NWS Director in his interactions with the NWS and NOAA Executives, internal and external partners, as well as the environmental community the NWS serves. From March 2010 through June 2011, Andrea became a Project Manager with NOAA External Affairs to assist with reaching out effectively to external audiences and to coordinate External Affairs projects with regards to NWS interests and NOAA as a whole. In July 2011, Andrea was asked to support NOAA's Assistant Secretary for Environmental Observation and Prediction, Dr. Kathryn Sullivan, as policy advisor on weather and satellite issues. She completed this assignment in May 2012 and was hired to become the Weather-Ready Nation Roadmap Execution Manager. From August 2013 through March 2015, Andrea served as Deputy and Project Manager for the NWS Budget and Headquarters Restructuring Project. This project restructured the NWS budget and designed a new NWS headquarters organizational structure and associated governance framework. The NWS HQ Reorganization established the Office of Organizational Excellence where she has worked since 2015. As the Partnership Engagement Lead she supported formal and informal interactions with a wide network of NWS partners and stakeholders and developed the NWS Partnership Strategy, She now serves as the Deputy Director for the Office of Organizational Excellence. Andrea is a full member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and has served on numerous boards, committees and as a member of the AMS Council.Andrea has a Master’s Degree from Virginia Tech in Science and Technology Studies and an Executive Certificate in Facilitation from Georgetown University Institute for Transformational Leadership.
