About Alexander Neely

Just a guy who really likes rocks! I just finished a PhD in geosciences. I strive to learn about geology and its stories, and I like helping others see geology as more than "boring old rocks". Geology touches all the raw materials we have to use as humans. That's pretty important!I value our environment and natural resources, and I spend a lot of time outside both for work and play. Rocks are just one aspect, but I love how rocks tell stories that connect the past, present, and future. Over the past ten years, I've gathered a comprehensive understanding of geologic literature, approaches, and methodologies. This practice was necessary to complete my MS and PhD degrees, design novel research that aided in our understanding of sediment production and transport in steep landscapes, and serve as an expert reviewer for 5 scientific journals. Currently, I lecture an introductory geoscience course. I make course content fun, engaging, useful, and centered around student learning objectives.I'm interested in a career trajectory where I can leverage creativity, foundational geoscience knowledge, and storytelling at any technical level. I'm open-minded, and I'm willing to learn a variety of skills. I'm interested in careers that revolve around education, mineral exploration, resource conservation, and outreach. I know that’s not very specific, but I like learning, and I’m not too picky.I also like slow pitch softball, canoeing, and watching the Cleveland Browns actually win some football games. Thanks for reading! Hope to connect!
