Some of the plant failures that I worked on were, jamming of remotely operated fuel handling machineries, high resistances in in-core fuel handling, sodium pump failures, high vibrations in electro-magnetic pumps. Served as Member Secretary to the Expert Group on review of high resistances in-core fuel handling. Problem solving involved a deeper analysis of geometric tolerance stack-up, kinematics, force balance, friction, failure patterns, fracture mechanics, hardness and deformation of mating surfaces etc.4. National codes and guidance documents on nuclear safety: Drafted first detailed commissioning guidance for SFR based NPPs, now under publication. Served as Member Secretary on the drafting committee.5. Regulatory oversight of NPPs, focusing on mechanical maintenance, plant commissioning, QA, plant management, and industrial safety.Lately, pivoted towards licensing approaches for advanced Small Modular Reactors (SMR). PFBR is a 500 MW(e) Sodium Cooled Fast Reactor based Nuclear Power Plant which was under Commissioning Phase then. I worked at PFBR for more than a year as a Field Engineer in Commissioning Activities under Operation & Maintenance Division.Major highlights of my work at PFBR are as follows:(1). Commissioning of Sodium Heat Transport Circuits, in particular Safety Grade Decay Heat Removal Circuits (SG-DHR). I worked on functional performance testing of SG-DHR Sodium Heat Transport Circuits as per the approved Commissioning Procedures, verification of design intent, Circuit Sequential Pre-heating trials, identification and regularisation of deficiencies in the heat transport circuits, Preparation of Operating Procedures, Checklists, Calibration Charts and System Commissioning Test Reports. Also worked on commissioning of support systems such as Sodium Purification Circuits.(2). Commissioning of Fuel Handling Systems. I worked on testing of in-core and ex-core fuel handling machineries and components. Majorly worked on rectification plans of the fuel handling machineries that indicated deviations during commissioning activities.(3). Lead the commissioning activities and subsequent round the clock operations of Secondary Sodium Pump Rotor Assembly - Sodium Removal Facility. This facility was set-up to remove residual sodium from sodium wetted heavy machineries such as Secondary Sodium Pumps, for their breakdown maintenance and rectification.(4). O&M of Plant Utilities such as Safety Related Service Water System, Demineralised Water Plant, Argon Cover Gas supply and distribution, etc. (5). Completed Plant Electrical Authorisation for handling plant electrical equipment and Green Dot Qualification for Radiation Protection.
