In my first week I briefed Treasury officials and, in my second, the Permanent Secretary. Led on UK Government response on all State Aid issues relating to the collapse of Metronet, the company responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of two thirds of the London Underground.Facilitated negotiations between the Department and Transport for London (TfL) on an agreement to upgrade the Oyster card infrastructure in order to accept national standard ITSO cards. Sign off on the agreement had been delayed by two years, as disputes over key elements of the agreement had remained unresolved within the Department. I identified the contentious areas and brought the relevant decision makers together. With these decisions made we were able to negotiate properly with TfL.
