  • Sunspots Productions
Audio Engineer / Director / Producer
Sunspots Productions Aug 1995 - Present
Since August 1995, I've had the pleasure to be part of an incredible team of creative minds. I've worked hard to bring the best possible voiceovers and audio production services to our clients all over the country. It's been a journey that has spanned from mastering our work on 1/4" reels and breaking speed limits to make the FedEx cutoff - through the dawn and twilight of Magneto-optical discs, DATs and burning our work to CDs - and finally, to the age of the cloud and instant gratification utilizing the brain child of Al Gore - the internet! No, not really. Al Gore did not invent the internet. The time I've spent honing my skills in voiceover recording, directing and crafting creative theater of the mind through sound design is all due to the hours and hours I've spent behind the console, working with the best voice talent, great writers and directors and my awesome SunSpots co-workers!
  • Kltr - Houston, Tx <Now Defunct>
    On Air Personality
    Kltr - Houston, Tx 1991 - 1993
Soft & Contemporary. Houston's Lite Rock, Less Talk Station of the 80's & 90's. My time at KNRJ and working with Bob Vance had given me some tools and experience to work with, so as I came on board at K•Lite as an announcer (liner card reader .. and not a very good one, at that), I also continued to produce spec material for the sales staff to try and get new advertisers with. I enjoyed the process of voicing a script and then creating the final work with sound effects and music. And while being on-air was fun, it wasn't too long before I wanted audio engineering and production to become my full time job.
  • Kkht / Knrj - Houston, Tx <Now Defunct>
    On Air Personality
    Kkht / Knrj - Houston, Tx 1989 - 1991
I caught the tail end of KKHT, maybe just the last 2 or 3 months of the format and call letters, but during that time I had the pleasure of running the Houston After Dark jazz show on Saturday & Sunday mornings from 12a to 2a, then playing the hot AC hits of the day until 6a. It was nice, watching the Houston city skyline from the 12th floor of the NCNB Bank building at Holcombe & Main from the control room window. It was especially interesting watching the cars on the street below trying to navigate during the ice storm of December '89. KNRJ, Energy 96.5 was an experiment in CHR/Urban sound imported from the streets of NYC to Houston, TX. It was introduced in early 1989 and was short lived, but it was a bunch of fun at the time. This is where my life as an audio engineer really gets started. Bob Vance was the production director at these stations, and he was kind enough to allow me to hang out in the mornings after my overnight shifts and watch him work. I'd played around in the production rooms at previous stations, but this was different. The station was previously an ABC O&O property, so the gear here was modern - and, it worked. After a few months of watching Bob and playing around with the gear, I started voicing & producing spec-spots for the sales staff to shop around to prospective clients.
  • Kglf - Lake Jackson, Tx <Now Defunct>
    On Air Personality
    Kglf - Lake Jackson, Tx 1988 - 1989
KGLF, Lake Jackson was an odd bird. It was technically a radio station ... but it felt more like a science experiment that you could walk into. It was a country format station in a small trailer whose programming was served from a satellite feed .. but mostly I just remember the top of the hour readings of the weather report, ripped from the AP wire machine. Not really much else to say, other than I did watch a lot of the Weather Channel here (subscription did not have the cool TV channels).

    On Air Personality
    Ksam / Khun - Huntsville, Tx 1987 - 1988
KHUN, Huntsville - where the signal may dim slightly depending on what's happening over at the state penitentiary. Many odd things happened here, but many good things too. This was the place where my career started. I just didn't know it at the time.
