One of the proudest moments in my life was at my dad's sermon. I rose up from the pew and began walking towards the podium without any sort of prepared speech in mind. As I faced a church full of people, my first thought was "Wow, there are so many people here." I started recognizing familiar faces that I hadn't seen in years. Faces of people that had worked for my dad. As I began my unscripted eulogy, it dawned on me how my dad had given so many people their first shot in the auto body industry. Some developed artisan skills. Others took on administrative roles. Some moved on to working for other businesses and even started their very own. After I finished my eulogy and sat back down, others lined up to tell their own story of knowing my dad. Many had the same story, "I came in and asked for a job not knowing about cars and Sal took a chance on me." One story that stands out is where my dad had asked someone, "So, do you know anything about cars? ... "Yes", replied the applicant, "I know a lot about cars." ... "Well, great! Here's a broom." Here, you're like a chef. You start by keeping a clean work space. I started off with a broom in my hand, too. When my father ran this shop, I was used to seeing people stick around for a very long time. That's good because it builds consistency and predictability. But that can also hinder progression. People become comfortable and unmotivated. That's why at SCR Collision we've developed a work environment that is conducive for growth, that takes people from point A to point B in their career. People get to learn in a structured "entrepreneur organization" and flourish. Now it's my turn to invest in people. I’ve created my own version of "University SCR" where we develop and work with the highest caliber Rock-Star team. Bridging the auto body industry with technology and people.
