Senior Housing Needs Officer
Housing Needs Officer
I am currently employed as a Housing Needs Officer within the London Borough of Barnet's Housing Options service. My role involves deciding the statutory duties owed to a wide range of clients (of all tenure types) threatened with homelessness and working to ensure I maximise the number of these clients I am able to prevent from becoming homeless. Below is a summary of my key responsibilities, experience and knowledge: • Deliver a high standard of homelessness prevention work by completing detailed inquiries into clients' housing needs and issuing strong personal housing plans in order to equip clients with the tools to find accommodation and sustain a tenancy• Implementing important housing legislation such as Part VI and VII of the Housing Act (1996), the Homelessness Reduction Act (2017) and the Protection from Eviction Act (1977) and issuing complex and robust Section 184 decision letters to clients in accordance with this legislation• Effectively manage a caseload, ensuring I consistently provide a dedicated, person-centred approach to a diverse range of clients to best resolve their housing needs. • I work well in partnership with a range of internal and external services - such as Children's Services, Adult Social Care, Mental Health Services, IDVAs and private and social landlords - to achieve successful outcomes in preventing homelessness for clients on my caseload. I understand the importance of building and maintaining positive working relationships with a variety of services to ensure the best possible outcomes for service-users.• Ensure I work to meet the Local Authority’s key performance indicators and have a sound understanding of how my role functions to meet these objectives, for example consistently ensuring I achieve successful homelessness prevention outcomes to reduce the Local Authority’s reliance on temporary accommodation
Housing Options Graduate Trainee
I began as a graduate trainee on Barnet Homes 2 year graduate programme. I was responsible for supporting the front-line delivery of the housing options service for the London Borough of Barnet. After 1 year I progressed to the role of Housing Needs Officer. Below is a summary of my key responsibilities, experience and knowledge: • Working with a range of clients in a fast paced front-line environment, conducting housing triage assessments and providing high quality advice in order to help people resolve their threat of homelessness• Carrying out administration duties, such as regularly answering the Housing Advice e-mail inbox and responding to a range of queries from external stakeholders such as social workers, councillors, MPs and solicitors• Establish positive working relationships with a range of 3rd party organisations such as: social landlords, charities and social services• Maintain large volumes of accurate information and handle sensitive, personal data in a responsible and safe manner• Assist clients I have been allocated into finding alternative accommodation; placing them into a priority band in accordance with the London Borough of Barnet's Allocations Policy
Advocacy Assistant
My duties required providing communications, research and administrative support for the Education and Engagement Department at UEA Students’ Union. This role involved writing high quality reports and undertaking social research to assist the execution of the organisation’s campaigns. I displayed a highly diligent approach in order to achieve successful results and enjoyed working as part of a team. My achievements include: the writing of the annual report for the Students’ Union Advice department, qualitative analysis of postgraduate students’ satisfaction surveys, and being in charge of the operational work for the ‘Ethics and Environmental’ Subcommittee.
Destinations Survey Administrator
I worked as part of a small team, calling UEA graduates in order to complete the Annual Graduate Destinations Survey. I surveyed numerous graduates and was responsible for correctly inputting their responses on an online database. My role required a high level of listening ability and careful attention to detail, this is because the statistics collected are used to generate the University League tables on graduate employment rates.
Charity Fundraiser
My role required me to persuade people to donate to various major charities: such as the RNIB and Signal. My position has enabled me to further develop my communication and listening skills. This position has given me a good knowledge of the operations of large charities and non-governmental organisations
