Katz creates safe and structured classroom environments where students are encouraged to get to know one another and find common ground. His strength lies in his ability to assess the passions and challenges of diverse communities, and respond with dignity and inclusivity. His team-based approach to learning creates unique opportunities for students to connect with their local community, engaging everyone in the learning process, and bringing much-needed awareness of our shared human experience. Katz is committed to positive change through youth development and school-community partnerships. As Co-Founder and Music Director of Indigital Kids, a SF Bay Area educational nonprofit, he brought expressive arts to underserved populations from 2005-2010. In 2015, Katz created ONTASC (Organizing New Teaching Approaches in School Communities), a platform for school-community partnerships, fusing staff development and creative arts programming in what he refers to as “teacher parties,” reducing student-teacher ratios to as low as 3:1. In November, 2016, Katz founded Heartisan Foundation, an educational nonprofit dedicated to cultivating high-integrity, creative-minded young leaders, connected to their hearts, motivated by their passions, and empowered with 21st century skills. Katz works closely with Southern Oregon University as a teaching consultant for the School of Education where he offers teaching internships to pre-service teachers and post-graduate students. Katz holds a BS from Expression College for Digital Arts, and a unique palette of personal and professional development tools.
