Responsible for managing large and small scale studies to identify biomarkers associated to economic traits in beef cattle. Modernized processes including the design of a shared service cost allocation model for the multiuser DNA sequencing service, resulting in a 3x increase in rendered services. Created, planned and taught comprehensive courses and a national workshop in genomics and bioinformatics. Embrapa Beef Cattle Unit is dedicated to basic and applied research for the development of technologies, products, processes and services that increase productivity and profitability of sustainable Brazilian livestock.

After completing my PhD thesis I was awarded a Post-Doc grant to continue my work with functional genomics of Leprosy and the search for biomarkers involved in susceptibility and progression of Mycobacterial diseases. In June of 2012, I was granted a full-time position at Embrapa (Brazilian Corporation for Research in Agriculture and Livestock) Beef Cattle Unit in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, thus having to terminate my Post-Doc prematurely. I have, however, maintained long-standing connections at Fiocruz, which have proven valuable sources of collaboration during my time at Embrapa.

Throughout a collaboration with Dr. Annemeike Geluk, I received training in Multiplex Probe Ligation Amplification (MLPA), which was then used for identification of whole blood RNA signatures in Leprosy.

Through a fruitful and long-standing collaboration with scientists at the National Hansen's Disease Program at LSU, I had the opportunity to spend time in Louisiana to work with their primary human Schwann cell model of Leprosy. These cell cultures would later become the starting point of my PhD thesis work on novel pathways in the pathogenesis of Leprosy neuropathy.

I was awarded a Fogarty International Fellowship to carry out DNA microarray experiments in Dr. David Spray's laboratory at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Apart from my own experiments, the fellowship was an opportunity to train in DNA microarray technology from the wet lab all the way to data analysis.
