Hello! I am excited to be pivoting towards a career in occupational therapy. I am drawn to occupational therapy because of its holistic approach to making a tangible difference in people’s lives. My goal is to leverage my skills and experiences to help individuals achieve greater independence and quality of life.I'm currently a research assistant at a nonprofit that specializes in providing research, evaluation, and technical assistance related to some of the most pressing issues in today’s society, such as healthcare access, educational disparities, and community violence. This experience has solidified how important it is to me to continue working at an organization whose mission and values align with my own.I graduated from Rice University with a BA in sociology. As a first-gen Latina from a low income background, the knowledge and tools that sociology offers transformed the way I understood my own lived experiences. This critical consciousness is something I carry with me at all times, and it is the lens through which I approach solving problems and building relationships.
