About Abubakar Mohammed

I am passionate about leading and strengthening government institutions and digital systems to improve health outcomes and access to essential health commodities. My goal is to institutionalize robust health information, logistics, and supply chain systems that drive data-informed decision-making and enhance service delivery, especially within international and donor-funded programs. As a pharmacist with a master’s in Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies, and an MBA (MIS) in progress, I bring 20+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing supply chain and information systems across Nigeria and other developing countries. My expertise spans leadership development, policy formulation, strategic planning, government engagement, supply chain digital systems development, change management, and talent development. For over 15 years, I’ve led technical initiatives for the Nigerian government, overseeing the design and rollout of cutting-edge supply chain solutions.I spearheaded the development of the Nigeria Health Logistics Management Information System (NHLMIS), an end-to-end visibility supply chain platform that integrates seamlessly with third-party systems. I also designed data analytics solutions using Microsoft Power BI, providing real-time insights and enhancing visibility for over 250 staff. Additionally, I led the deployment of the Commodity Order Management System (COMS), delivering full supply chain visibility from central warehouses to last-mile delivery. I also co-managed the development of the Ipolongo Solution, which supports mass ITN distribution and SMC campaigns, boosting malaria interventions. Our team’s efforts were recognized at the Global Health Supply Chain Summit 2020 as Grand Prize Award finalists for "Optimizing Supply Chain Management for Efficiency using the Commodity Order Management System." The Ipolongo Solution also earned us further recognition and a financial incentive in 2023 for significantly improving the ITN campaign process, data visibility, and cost efficiency.Beyond technology, I’ve supported Nigeria's government in developing the Supply Chain Information Systems Sustainability Strategy to create an ecosystem that integrates supply chain information systems into the broader e-health and financial sectors.I’ve contributed to multiple donor-funded projects, including USAID, PMI, PEPFAR, The Global Fund, and DFID, serving in roles from Program Officer to Acting Director.
