About Aslam Bulbulia

I'm from South Africa with Indian heritage, now living on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ / sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) land. With a background in Political Science and Philosophy, I've delved into diverse fields during my postgraduate studies, from city-planning and Islamic law to user-centered design and decoloniality. I hold a Certificate in Dialogue and Civic Engagement from SFU and am a certified Deep Democracy instructor. I facilitate transformative experiences in collaboration with great colleagues at Waterline, InnerActivist, and LightWork.My personal journey, shaped by my experiences growing up in post-apartheid South Africa and a wide range of experiences all over the world has strengthened my ability to empathize deeply with a diverse groups while staying true to my commitments. I’m extremely curious and willing to try new ideas and ways of relating. This has led me to curate a Mosque photoblog in Johannesburg, teach English in Sharjah and Toronto, perform stand-up comedy, co-produce a Palestinian-solidarity album, breakdancing, crochet, start worker cooperatives, artist collectives and more. Recently, my focus has been on fostering dialogue and engagement in Vancouver's diverse landscape. I've been involved in shaping inclusive learning environments and shifting organizational cultures.
