Kanuri Arithmetic and Reading Initiative (KARI) is focused on pupils in grades one to three, to improve reading amongst these learners, and it is based on a model called structured pedagogy.Material review of Kanuri Arithmetic and Reading program: My task was to review the Kanuri Arithmetic and Reading program material through carefully examining the content, structure, and effectiveness of the program, and providing feedback or suggestions for improvement.

FHI 360 led the implementation of the Reading and Numeracy Activity (RANA), started as a three-year pilot project (2015-2018) on early grade reading, which is part of UNICEF’s Girls Education Project Phase 3 (GEP3) funded by the U.K. Department for International Development (DFID).As a Technical Officer Education, my role was to provide support and coordination for the RANA Activity. This includes supporting program planning, design, review, and monitoring of program implementation at the state level. Also I was responsible for supporting literacy program planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of reading interventions in the supporting states. In addition, I provide technical expertise and input related to the content development of Hausa Upper Grade Reading Materials. Coordinating and ensuring effective conduct of teacher and facilitator training. I also provide all the technical support required for the training of pilot teachers on the materials with fidelity.

U.K. Department for International Development (DFID). FHI 360 works with UNICEF to train facilitators on the content of basic literacy and numeracy programme developed by UNICEF with the support of NMEC in 2016. The IQS intervention is implemented in Bauchi, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto and Zamfara from 2018-2019.The role of National TDTs is to use their advance knowledge and skills to support State TDTs to deliver the training effectively in line with the content of the training manual and best practices for training facilitation. This support role is broadly categorized as technical and logistical and specified in the following:Support in developing the three components of Teacher IQS guide (Literacy, Numeracy and Science), training plans (including adequacy of training materials) and help in resolving challenges that affect a training center assigned to them. Coordinate the daily routine of a training center (LGA) During the stepdown training. This includes ensuring timely smooth transition from one session to another and following the training manual by the State TDTs. Assess and evaluate State TDTs’ capabilities, areas of strength and areas for improvement

I was also responsible for conducting surveys, interviews, and observations to collect relevant information from various stakeholders: students, parents, teachers, and school administrators.
