About Andy Carle

Andy is a UX strategist, prototype engineer, and usability scientist. He is a co-founder of Moddable and member of the Visiting Faculty in UC Berkeley's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences. Andy is a passionate advocate for the role of JavaScript in the future of the internet of things and connected device development. He has given numerous invited talks about JavaScript for IoT, design and engineering processes for connected products, and usability at the border of software and hardware.Andy holds a PhD in Computer Science (emphasis in Human-Computer Interaction) from UC Berkeley. His background is a fairly even split between engineering and HCI, with strong coverage of: UX strategy and product positioning, prototype engineering, software development, design and execution of user studies (with a particular focus on qualitative evaluation methods), educational and instructional technologies, and formative evaluation techniques.
