About Amanda Castro-Crist
I am the Associate Director for Executive Communications & Support in the Office of the Chancellor at the Texas Tech University System. I also am completing my master’s degree in Strategic Communication & Innovation at Texas Tech University. At my core, I’m a storyteller. I got my start as a journalist, using my writing, graphic and web design, video, audio, social media and photography skills to tell stories in print, online and on the radio for my collegiate and community outlets. When I transferred to Texas Tech University in 2015, I got my first taste of public relations and marketing and never looked back. Since then, I’ve worked in internal and strategic communications as an intern at Texas Tech and Southwest Airlines and in a full-time capacity at the university and the TTU System. Leading executive and internal communications in the Chancellor’s Office for a nationally and globally recognized higher education system has been an incredible experience, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

As the editor-in-chief for The Ranger, the student newspaper for Amarillo College. After completing a summer radio class, I spent the remainder of the summer working as a disc jockey at the AC student radio station, FM90. I monitored slot shows; queued public service announcements; read live announcements; and answered phone calls from listeners.

I also handled daily office duties, including filing, processing mail, completing reports, answering phones, and assisting walk-in clients.

As a preschool teacher for 4-year-olds, I led a group of 10 to 15 children in daily activities built around a Christian core, with emphasis on age-appropriate subjects including handwriting, colors, and numbers and letters. I wrote lesson plans and prepared schedules; created new learning modules; led indoor and outdoor learning and free-time activities; helped the children prepare for events; resolved conflicts; and collaborated with other teachers for joint-class projects. I also met with parents and guardians as needed; decorated, cleaned and organized my classroom; trained new teachers; and monitored the children during special events and meal, snack and nap times.
