I have been working on problems associated with multimedia applications that generate many (often high-bandwidth and time-critical) flows of information with complex inter-flow semantic relationships for over 20 years. I have broad experience in mathematical modeling, performance analysis, optimization, standards development, intellectual property and innovation. My responsibilities in any role have been in primarily three categories:• Product/service innovation and development, patent generation (internal) • Standards development, publications and services (external)• Mentorship and trainingIn 2020 and 2021, I was listed among the world’s most influential scientists in the subfield of networking and telecommunications and in 2022, I was honored with an Emmy® Award for Technology and Engineering. While most of my contributions were in the service provider video space, I also worked with the enterprise video collaboration teams that developed the Cisco WebEx and TelePresence products. Due to the multi-platform nature of this position, I acquired in-depth understanding of industry-wide trends and competitive products.In the service provider video space, my focus was on reliable and scalable real-time content delivery for managed and unmanaged networks. Over the years, I worked on various stages of a content delivery chain, including content acquisition, contribution, transport, caching, distribution and consumption. In addition to the design and development, my work also involved mathematical modeling, performance analysis and optimization. The specific product lines I worked on include IPTV, headend, video-on-demand and streaming. I also actively participated in and contributed to the standards development in the field of multimedia systems and services in organizations such as the IETF, MPEG and DASH-IF.Between 2011 and 2014, I co-led a team of seven engineers working on forward-looking ideas in large-scale adaptive media transport. Our team’s charter was to innovate ideas leading to products that would allow Cisco to leapfrog the competition in this space. The project resulted in several innovations, some of which are in shipping products today.I actively engaged in research activities with universities. I co-authored technical publications to promote and increase the visibility of our technologies in the research community. I evaluated new Qualcomm proposals to improve the RLC protocol for W-CDMA (relative to the RLP for CDMA-2000 and an optimal link-layer protocol). The results were presented in 3GPP TSG RAN WG2 meetings. I also contributed to the establishment of the Enhanced Uplink (EUL) system evaluation methodology.
