I am responsible for the Life Science program at Seaborough, from scientific research to the commercialization of our technologies. This means that I develop the (long-term) strategies for research, innovation, and product development on one side, and on the other side for business and commercialization. I lead the team that realizes all these ambitions and I have a big hands-on role myself.

As a materials scientist, I developed new luminescent materials for LEDs and other sustainable technologies. In this role, I was driving the chemical research of the materials team, mostly focused on new synthesis methods and analysis of chemical composition and (crystal)structure of materials. My work led to multiple scientific publications and patent applications. Moreover, I played an important role in the collaborations with several (inter)national parties (both commercial and academic), and in the writing of (inter)national grant applications and reporting. Next to the scientific work, I was heavily involved in the innovation and communication strategy of the company.

My PhD thesis describes the synthesis and optical characteristics of colloidal nanocrystals of the semiconductor material copper indium sulfide. I developed new synthesis methods and characterized the nanocrystals with electron microscopy and (time-resolved) spectroscopy. I presented the results of my research at (inter)national conferences and published them in peer-reviewed high-impact journals. Next to doing research myself, I also supervised BSc and MSc students working on their thesis. In addition, I taught first-year students the practical course ‘analysis techniques’.

Coach and coxswain of freshmen and elite rowing crews, competing at national and international level. Advisor of the board of the rowing club, responsible for long term policy, structure of the organization of the club, and functioning of board members.
