Accent is an award winning, research based architecture +design firm in the SF Bay Area led by architect Sandhya Sood. Our design approach is based on resource efficiency, wellness and adaptive design solutions for new, existing and historic buildings. An appropriate response can energize human patterns of interaction, aiding in conservation, place making and belonging to the environment. An advanced degree at UC Berkeley enables Sandhya to incorporate social qualities, building science, cultural wisdom, historic contexts and sustainable design in projects. Her multidisciplinary studies and diverse professional experiences include institutional, residential, community, interior design, architectural history and historic preservation. Sandhya has received a proclamation from the mayor of Berkeley for her work in sustainable design as well as BAHA's 2022 Annual Preservation Award. She received a grant from EDA at UC Berkeley to study the Julia Morgan Collection and was Project Partner of Julia Morgan Festival, 2012. She served as board member of Docomoma NoCA, a historic preservation organization, and worked on documentation, climate response and evaluation of historic buildings.Sandhya's research and peer -reviewed papers have been published by professional organizations including American Solar Energy Society (ASES), American Institute of Architects, CA Council ( AIACA), Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) and DOCOMOMO International.
