The Olea Group provides consulting and contract-based underwriting services to Community Development Financial Institutions throughout the United States. We specialize in improving lending policies, underwriting manuals, and risk assessment models to increase process efficiencies and boost portfolio performance for CDFIs. The Olea Group also provides full service underwriting for mission-based lenders. We conduct in-depth analyses of cash flow, credit, collateral, and business performance to facilitate credit decisions for business loans between $2,500 and $250,000.

Underwrote microloans and SBA Community Advantage business loans between $500 and $100,000. Assessed risk and recommended loan approval or denial using innovative underwriting and risk assessment solutions. Maintained portfolio default rates between 3% and 5%. Identified opportunities to increase efficiency in the loan process from package to approval, and informed strategy to scale production. Assisted with the adoption of technical system updates across the lending department.

Designed and launched Accion’s Rescue and Financial Triage program (RAFT), which provided coaching and resources for entrepreneurs whose businesses were at risk of closure as a result of predatory loans and cash advances. Created diagnostic tools to identify risk and recommend methods for restoring business health, documented process flows, and managed a cross-departmental strategy committee of senior executives. RAFT assisted 42 business owners and educated 5,000 entrepreneurs about smart borrowing in its first year.

Originated 167 loans totaling over $1.5MM disbursed, exceeding lending production goals every quarter. Provided financial literacy training and technical assistance to small business owners. Responsible for the product design, testing, and pilot program for a new line of home improvement loans. Documented the start-up process of Sé Más by interviewing employees, board members, clients, lawyers, and accountants to gather information.

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Organized and managed daily service activities for teams of 10 to 30 volunteers focusing on education, construction and women’s issues. Acted as a liaison between native Dominicans and visiting American teams to integrate volunteers into the local community. Served as the main point of contact between volunteers and the parent organization during their time on the ground.
