Leading a feasibility study and discovery process to examine what an advanced manufacturing development center to serve the Chattanooga Region would entail. Involves surveying each community that would serve as a customer for this facility to determine best which programs to include in order to create a sustainable resource.

Andrew Rodgers has worked in the Industrial Automation and Information Technology sector for over 8 years. During this time he has worked on controls systems ranging from Building Automation to controls for Pneumatic Cannon for firing chickens at aircraft windshields. He has been involved in several large construction projects functioning as site coordinator and building systems engineer. He brings deep knowledge of the implementation of both physical and logical topologies of various communications, networking, and fieldbus technologies.

In my role with The Company Lab, I support the technical needs of the staff, and also act as a liaison between established manufacturers in the Chattanooga Area, and entrepreneurs driving innovation in a variety of fields, including both conventional and additive manufacturing practices. I utilize my diverse manufacturing background to find common ground for new technologies and existing processes, across a wide range of disciplines.

Andrew's bio:Andrew has been working in and around manufacturing for over 8 years, most of that experience involved maintaining and upgrading the conventional manufacturing equipment, in a variety of industries. With this background, he has been watching the additive manufacturing technology move forward for nearly a decade. The last two years really drove home the importance of these developments to Andrew, as he was privileged to mentor a FIRST robotics team in Knoxville, where Dr. Lonnie Love with ORNL, opened up the newly built MDF (Manufacturing Demonstration Facility) to any regional team to see and use additive technology firsthand. Even more inspiring than seeing the possibilities of direct metal and industrial grade polymer printing, was witnessing the novel ideas the kids on the team came up with, un-fettered by the limitations of conventional techniques. He has been driven ever since to share that vision.Andrew is looking forward to using his diverse set of experiences with product development, process development, software development and conventional manufacturing to bridge the gap between the ideas the GIGTANK teams will bring to market, and the technology that is commercially available.

Manage new product production development. Manage process improvement projects. Develop process automation enhancements. Since my employment at MillenniTEK, I have been steadily improving outdated control systems with cutting edge technology. MillenniTEK's processes rely on very specialized equipment, developed in house. Through my experience with control systems, interface design, and industrial networking, I have been able to apply modern solutions to very complex control systems. My knowledge of electrical theory and experience implementing complex data collection, has negated much unnecessary downtime, replacing operators "feelings" with hard data. Much of MillenniTEK's mechanical equipment relied on complex relay logic systems, I have developed modern control systems using Programmable Automation Controllers and touchscreen based Human Machine Interfaces.

It has been my honor to work with the children, parents, and teachers of Team 3140 through two build seasons. My goal has been to provide an experienced manufacturing perspective to the development process, while promoting outside the box ingenuity for the entire team. My experience with industrial automation programming as well as mechanical modeling and design have proved invaluable to my efforts with the team.

Qtek Solutions Specializes in Small Businesses’ technology needs. Our specialties include network design, installation, management, POTS and VOIP phone systems, surveillance, and access control systems. Qtek Solutions handles ALL technology concerns for small business owners, allowing them to focus solely on growing their business.

I developed a complete building automation and information technology infrastructure using only open, inter-operable options to proprietary systems. I chose openness in order to maximize compatibility while minimizing cost. My goal was to create a fully inter-operable automation, IT, and security system with an open infrastructure that will allow integration with any device, preventing infrastructure obsolescence. I used my experience and electrical knowledge to verify existing infrastructures suitability, saving cost where reuse was possible, and making calculated provisions where inadequate infrastructure was encountered. I was also responsible for developing piping and manifold designs and layout for the building hydronics system. All designs referenced appropriate building code when applicable, including requirements for raceway, lighting levels, cable sizing, box fill, conduit fill, protective devices, coordination studies, and arc flash mitigation.

I was responsible for testing, repairing, calibrating and documenting complex protective relaying systems for power distribution in a large petroleum chemical plant. Documentation required recreating control and single line drawings lost during a natural disaster by reverse engineering existing equipment. My duties also included the development of automated test plans that verified design-intended functionality, ensuring safety and protection for downstream equipment. This work was done following a disaster recovery work effort, requiring verified results on a very tight schedule.My primary role was troubleshooting complex protective relaying schemes in industrial power distribution systems. This involved development of automated test plans for both analog and digital relay protective devices. I also Documented existing control schemes and performed calibrations in both analog and digital relays and motor controls.

My duties included Comprehensive, multi-platform network management. In addition, I was responsible for day-to-day maintenance, new system installation, new process configuration, disaster recovery, process development, and machine interface development.I was responsible for the modernization of a machine and shop floor control system that used over 65 PCs. Each of these PCs represented a piece of critical process equipment, downtime was not an option. I developed best practices for minimizing downtime of both the PCs and the attached automation equipment. The upgrade process included domain migration, new equipment purchasing, server configuration, and new human machine interfaces.
