I am a Certified Executive Coach and currently the Chief Superintendent of Schools for the Grande Prairie Public School Division. In addition to my work with amazing staff and students in an excellent school division, I have also served my professional college on the Zone 1 executive in different positions and served two terms as the Zone 1 Director on the provincial Board for the College of Alberta School Superintendents. For the 2022-2023 school year I was Alberta’ recipient of the EXL award, which recognizes excellence in School System Leadership, and a nominee for the national EXL award. A growth mindset is hugely important to me and I am always seeking to improve; as a person, husband, father, colleague and with respect to the systems and processes I am involved with. My growth interests for the last several years have been in three areas: (1) to explore the research on the organizational culture and practices of effective school divisions, (2) the impact of coaching, generative dialogue, and collaborative inquiry to support and drive continuous individual and system improvement, and (2) how Superintendents can support the effective governance of School Boards and align Board governance and administrative operations to ensure the academic and personal success of all students in the division.I think in the future it is likely I will be curious to learn more about the potential value of coaching to support people in the Chair position for public school boards.
