Abraham Cohen is a Lead Structural Engineer who specializes in seismic retrofit of existing healthcare facilities, industrial complexes and various public structures; currently consulting at Yaron Offir Engineers. Abraham received his Civil Engineering degree from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and his M.Sc. from the Institute for Advanced Study of Pavia (IUSS), Italy.Abraham’s work includes seismic failure risk assessment of existing structures, detailed nonlinear analysis and retrofit seismic design, implementation of isolation and energy dissipation systems in new and existing structures, rehabilitation of prefabricated buildings, blast loading design, development of guidelines to determine the structural safety and integrity of buildings and site supervision during construction and implementation among others. In an effort to achieve true performance based design Abraham is currently involved in the development of innovative seismic devices for both structural and nonstructural elements to both comply with current standards and help set new milestones in current seismic engineering practice.
